This is going to be an introductory post, so we can get to know a little about our fellow Netflix users. Feel free to share as little or as much about yourself as you want. Here are a few suggested questions to get us started:
- How long have you had Netflix?
- Why did you decide to join Netflix?
- What plan do you currently have?
- Have you used any other by-mail rental services?
- Do you use the Instant Watching feature?
- Do you primarily rent new releases or older films?
- What's your favorite genre? Least favorite?

Date: 2011-06-10 10:36 pm (UTC)I can't remember when we first started using Netflix, but we've had an on-and-off relationship for maybe 5-6 years. Our current membership is about 2 years old. We decided to join because it's much cheaper than going to the store and renting movies; it's also much more convenient, since we live in the middle of nowhere. When we first started using Netflix we had the 3-disc at a time plan, but we found that we weren't watching that many movies at a time. We've been getting 1-disc at time for the past two years and it works great. I go to school full time, so I don't tend to watch movies during the week anyway. My mom is perfectly fine getting only 2 movies per week, plus we do use the Instant Watching.
We tried out Blockbuster for awhile. It was nice that we could take the movie to an actual Blockbuster store and exchange it for another, instead of having to wait on the mail if we wanted to. But overall their service wasn't that great, and we returned to Netflix. I did like their rating system better, since they allowed for half-stars.
We primarily have new releases in our Queue. Some of them are older new releases, that we missed when they were first new. There's also some older movies stuck in there. Our Instant Queue, which is 90% my movies, are mostly older movies. I really love movies in general, and there's a lot that I haven't seen and would like to. I'm hoping to get a good chunk of my queue viewed during my summer break. My favorite genres are comedy and romance, especially romantic comedies. I also really like movies that Netflix would label as "quirky." I'm also a Disney (NOT the Disney channel) freak, so lots of cartoons also. I do enjoy a range of genres, but I do not like gory, horror films. I'm squeamish and get scared easily. Oddly, those are my mom's favorites.

Date: 2011-06-11 02:11 am (UTC)I've had Netflix 6 years now.
I joined to find musicals, foreign films, special interests and documentaries that aren't available at my local rental stores.
I have 2 at a time plan.
This is the only by mail service we've tried
I love the Instant feature with a complete and total slavish devotion.
New releases we mostly get from Redbox instead.
We love a lot of different things. Good film-making is way more important than genre. But that being said, I'm not so much into the snuff porn/slasher type horror films. The creepy supernatural ones are more my style, and I will always have a weakness for costume dramas, especially costume dramas with battle scenes.

We have the 2 disk plan, but we primarily are totally devoted to the Instant View. We currently have 370 things in our Instant Queue.
But we're not addicts.

Date: 2011-06-11 04:34 pm (UTC)I'm a 2-disc at a time-r.
I don't have a good set-up for instant viewing but I use it now and then. I like it for things like British detective tv series like "Midsomer Murders" which are lightweight and don't demand close attention.
I have about 400 movies on my queue. I don't need to see the latest, biggest thing out there asap; I prefer the indies, older films, and foreign films. I usually write a commentary (I wouldn't give it the dignity of calling it a review) on what I watch on DW and LJ.
I pick up a lot of ideas of things to put on my list from other people mentioning movies.

Date: 2011-06-25 03:13 am (UTC)I particularly enjoy Netflix's good selection of queer movies. I also like Sf/F and many kinds of TV shows. I often takes notes on what I watch in my DW, but I'm always looking for recs of good things to watch, and hope to find that here.

Date: 2011-07-01 06:59 pm (UTC)Before then I got movies from either Hollywood Video or Blockbuster, most of the local locations going out of business compelled us to try Netflix. We also have Dish, mostly for my husband who must watch shows NOW.
I'm always on the lookout for something interesting to put in my queue, especially if it is a bit outside of the realm of my normal interests.

Date: 2011-07-01 09:43 pm (UTC)How long have you had Netflix? -- Well over a decade
Why did you decide to join Netflix? -- We got sick of going to Blockbuster (back when Blockbuster was brick-and-mortar only).
What plan do you currently have? -- 4 discs at a time (a grandfathered plan, I think)
Have you used any other by-mail rental services? -- Nope. We've considered Greencine because they had a wider variety of anime, but we never took the plunge. And we have almost 500 discs on our queue so it's not like we NEED a wider variety of anime...
Do you use the Instant Watching feature? -- Occasionally. But the quality isn't as good as discs, and up until fairly recently, there weren't any subtitles, which we need due to hearing impairments.
Do you primarily rent new releases or older films? -- Both. Because of needing subtitles, we hardly ever see movies in the theater, so Netflix is how we see new stuff. We also have lots of older stuff on our queue.
What's your favorite genre? Least favorite? -- Each of us has a different set of likes and dislikes, but our main overlaps are anime, science fiction, not-too-faily action, documentaries.

Date: 2011-07-08 07:43 pm (UTC)I think for about four years now.
Why did you decide to join Netflix?
When I cut my Comcast cable back to nearly nothing.
What plan do you currently have?
The two DVDs at once plan, plus streaming.
Have you used any other by-mail rental services?
Nope.
Do you use the Instant Watching feature?
Yes, and it works very poorly sometimes.
Do you primarily rent new releases or older films?
A mixture. And quite a few television pieces.
What's your favorite genre? Least favorite?
I don't have a favorite. But I scarcely ever rent 'family' or children's movies.
